French festival puts Iranian cinema in focus

The 46th Amiens International Film Festival will dedicate a 22-film program to Iranian cinema, bringing together restored classics, contemporary works and films by a new generation of women directors.
The Iran Focus section will span nearly six decades of filmmaking, featuring 12 classics, four films by independent director Karim Lakzadeh and six short films by Iranian women filmmakers, according to the festival’s official program.
Ebrahim Golestan's “The Brick and the Mirror”, Dariush Mehrjui's “The Cow”, and Abbas Kiarostami’s “Where Is the Friend's House?” and “Close-Up” are amongst the classic films.
The festival will also screen four films by Lakzadeh: “The Great Dive”, “Red Head”, “Dark Matter” and “Living Twice, Dying Thrice”.
The short-film selection includes “Memories of a Window” by Mehraneh Salimian and Amin Pakparvar; “Myanmar” by Hananeh Daliri; “Narmouk,” by Ghazal Zoghiniya and “The Burial of a Black Cat,” by Maryam Esmaeili.
The festival will run from November 13 to 21 in Amiens, in northern France.
