IRGC chief hails wrestling triumph as testament to Iran’s champion-building tradition

Commander-in-Chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Ahmad Vahidi hailed Iran’s U23 Greco-Roman wrestling team for winning the 2026 World Championships in Las Vegas, describing the achievement as a testament to the country’s ability to produce champions who bring honor to Iran on any stage and arena.
In a congratulatory message, Vahidi said the team’s emphatic victory, secured on US soil, demonstrated the capabilities, faith and determination of the country’s young athletes, particularly in a country where Iran’s adversaries have long sought to diminish the country’s name and the flag of the Islamic Republic.
He described the triumph as clear evidence of the enduring truth that Iran is a land that nurtures champions who raise the country’s name to the highest levels of achievement in every field.
Vahidi said the team’s continued success was undoubtedly the result of scientific management, targeted planning, the commitment of coaches and technical staff, and the determination and perseverance of young athletes who, through confidence in their own abilities, had turned the rigors of training and the challenges of competition into a source of national pride.
“Our champions let their strength and merit speak for themselves on the mat and proved that Iran’s name shines on the world stage through the effort, dignity and determination of its children,” he said.
