Leader urges greater support for Iran’s nursing community

Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei called on health officials to give greater attention to Iran’s nursing community, highlighting nurses’ vital role in restoring health, instilling hope and safeguarding society’s physical and mental well-being.
In a message marking the birth anniversary of Hazrat Zeinab (PBUH) and National Nurses Day on October 16, the Leader said the occasion had rightly been designated as a tribute to nurses, noting that many of Hazrat Zeinab’s moral qualities and human values were reflected in the dedicated and valued nursing profession.
“The role of nurses, like that of certain other groups such as physicians, teachers and educators, clerics, and relief workers, is one of restoring life and inspiring hope. For this reason, nurses are sometimes regarded as angels of mercy,” he said.
Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that caring for patients requires nurses to maintain a continuous, attentive and patient presence. He said their contribution extended beyond treating physical ailments, helping ease psychological and emotional suffering and, in many cases, preventing despair from taking hold.
“At a time when the malevolent network of global arrogance seeks to inflict suffering on the great Iranian nation by imposing various restrictions on medical treatment and medicine, attention to nurses, strengthening the nursing community, and preserving and enhancing their knowledge, skills, capabilities, morale, motivation and dignity play an important role in safeguarding society’s physical and mental health and security,” he said.
The Leader added that health officials were expected to make these priorities central to their work, in keeping with their ongoing commitment to serving the public.
