Maragheh Apple Festival demonstrates agricultural, cultural heritage
The Maragheh Apple Festival, held annually in mid-October, is one of the country’s important events for promoting rural development, the Presidential Office’s Director General for Rural Development and Underprivileged Areas said.
Alireza Nakhaei emphasized the office’s support for holding various rural and agricultural festivals, saying that such events should help strengthen rural economies and promote tourism across the country.
He said these objectives should be given serious consideration by local officials in organizing the 13th edition of the Maragheh Apple Festival, according to chtn.ir
Describing the festival as one of the oldest events of its kind, Nakhaei said that after 12 editions, greater efforts should be made to generate income and significantly improve the livelihoods of orchard owners in Maragheh, East Azarbaijan province.
He also highlighted Maragheh’s tourism potential and its historical and cultural heritage, saying these assets, combined with the county’s strong agricultural sector and apple production, could turn it into a major hub for rural tourism.
Nakhaei added that festivals are not merely cultural events that bring joy to local communities; they also showcase the tangible and intangible heritage, customs and traditions of different cities. Such events should be held on a grand scale, with media outlets used to promote the regions’ potential, he said.
