Iran expands 2026 Asian Games squad

Following the announcement of the initial Iranian delegation for the 2026 Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games, comprising 282 athletes (191 men and 91 women), and in response to a request from the Ministry of Sports and Youth to review the team composition in light of special national circumstances, the National Olympic Committee, in close coordination with the ministry, has completed the revision and finalized the entry list.
As a result, the final delegation has been expanded to 308 athletes, consisting of 214 men and 94 women. The team will compete under the name “Minab Angels" (Martyrs of Shajareh Tayebeh School), according to IRNA.
In its correspondence, the Ministry of Sports and Youth emphasized, based on technical and expert evaluations, the opinions of sports federations, joint meetings of the technical supervisory commission, and national sports policies, the importance of a strong Iranian presence at the Asian Games as a symbol of national unity, cohesion, solidarity, and sporting strength on the international stage.
This decision reflects the ongoing close and constructive cooperation between the National Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sports and Youth, aimed at maximizing the country’s sporting capacity for a stronger performance at the 2026 Asian Games.
