Spokeswoman: Gov’t reviewing policies after snapback invocation

Government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said on Sunday that Iran would reassess its economic and regulatory policies after the reimposition of UN sanctions under the so-called “snapback” mechanism.
“The government is re-examining the situation. The country cannot be run under warlike conditions with the rules of peacetime, and we need to review our circumstances and laws,” Mohajerani told a meeting of Iran’s Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA), ISNA reported.
The spokeswoman acknowledged the potential fallout from the sanctions’ reactivation. “Snapback is not an ineffective event. Some want to say it is nothing, but in reality we must admit it will certainly have an impact. If it were otherwise, the government would not have tried so hard to delay its activation,” she said.
Meanwhile, ICCIMA chief Samad Hassanzadeh said the private sector was prepared to withstand the pressure. “Although this action will cause damage, the private sector, relying on managerial capabilities and domestic capacities, can manage its consequences and keep the economy on a path of resilience,” he said, Tasnim reported.
Research suggests the effects of snapback sanctions “are not as extensive as advertised,” Hassanzadeh said, “but even the limited impact requires management based on field realities and incorporation into government policies.”
He added that resilience does not mean ignoring internal weaknesses. “This capability does not mean overlooking the need to fix domestic shortcomings and reform economic governance,” Hassanzadeh said, stressing that improving the business climate requires removing internal obstacles and seizing opportunities in regional and global markets.
