Iran, WHO to form joint working group to eliminate hepatitis C

Iran and the World Health Organization (WHO) are set to form a joint working group aimed at eliminating hepatitis C.
This decision was made during a meeting as part of the Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly in Geneva, according to Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education, IRNA wrote.
Hossein Farshidi, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Health and Medical Education, and Jérôme Salomon, WHO’s Assistant Director-General for Universal Health Coverage, Communicable and Noncommunicable Diseases attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Salomon congratulated Iran on its strong commitment to eradicating hepatitis C.
He praised Iran as a role model for other countries in controlling the disease and assured the global body’s support for Iran’s efforts.
Hepatitis is a liver inflammation caused by various infectious viruses and noninfectious agents, leading to a range of health issues, some of which can be fatal. The main strains of the hepatitis virus are types A, B, C, D, and E.
