Kermanshah exhibition showcases Iran’s handicrafts diversity

The 16th National Handicrafts Exhibition of Kermanshah Province has opened in the city of Kermanshah, bringing together representatives from all 31 provinces of Iran, with more than 200 booths and 250 artists and craftspeople participating.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Kiumars Azami, head of the Kermanshah Province’s Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization, said the event aims to showcase the potential of the handicrafts sector, support artists and craftspeople, expand sales markets, and create opportunities for the exchange of experience among industry professionals, according to chtn.ir.
He said the participation of artists and craftspeople from all 31 provinces provides an opportunity to highlight Iran’s cultural, artistic and ethnic diversity in Kermanshah.
Azami added that the exhibition also features cities and villages designated as national and international handicrafts hubs, showcasing some of their most notable products and capabilities across various crafts.
He noted that a range of provincial institutions and organizations are taking part in the event, including the Technical and Vocational Training Department, prison inmates participating in rehabilitation programs, the Welfare Department, the Imam Khomeini Relief Committee, the Science and Technology Park, knowledge-based companies, the Artists’ Basij, the provincial post office and the Department of Sports and Youth.
The Department of Sports and Youth is also introducing traditional and local games, highlighting aspects of Iran’s intangible cultural heritage and the cultural traditions of different communities. Meanwhile, works and achievements from the “Shirindokht” festival are also on display.
Azami emphasized that specialized handicrafts exhibitions can help boost production, strengthen artists’ livelihoods, showcase the capabilities of different provinces and promote cultural tourism.
The exhibition also provides an opportunity to showcase Kermanshah’s rich handicraft traditions, which reflect the province’s cultural diversity and artistic heritage. Traditional crafts associated with the region include Giveh, a lightweight, handwoven footwear, as well as traditional weaving, woodwork and other forms of local craftsmanship. These products represent both the skills passed down through generations and the cultural identity of communities across the province.
