Tehran orchestra brings Schubert’s Italian style to stage
The Tehran Symphony Orchestra will bring works by Franz Schubert and Aram Khachaturian to the iconic Vahdat Hall in Tehran on October 20.
The concert, titled ‘In the Italian Style,’ will open with Schubert’s overture ‘In the Italian Style,’ followed by Khachaturian’s ‘Concerto-Rhapsody,’ featuring Esmaeili on cello. Schubert’s Symphony No. 2 will close the evening, IRNA reported on Tuesday.
Conducting by Nassir Heidarian leading the performance, cellist Majid Esmaeili appearing as soloist. The performance is part of the orchestra’s autumn program and follows a series of concerts at Vahdat Hall, one of Tehran’s main music venues.
Schubert’s overture ‘In the Italian Style,’ composed in 1817, reflects the influence of Italian opera, particularly the lively style associated with Gioachino Rossini. Khachaturian’s ‘Concerto-Rhapsody’ for cello, written in 1963, combines lyrical passages with technically demanding sections. Schubert’s Symphony No. 2, composed in 1814-1815, is an early work that reflects his engagement with the classical symphonic tradition.
The latest concert continues the orchestra’s efforts to bring classical music to audiences in the Iranian capital through a mix of works from the European repertoire and programs featuring Iranian composers.
The Tehran Symphony Orchestra has presented a range of classical and themed performances in recent months, making Vahdat Hall a regular venue for its concerts.
