Six historic sites undergoing restoration in Zanjan Province
The restoration of six historic and nationally registered sites in different parts of Zanjan Province has begun, according to deputy head of the Provincial Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization.
Mohammad-Reza Mohammadpour said the restoration projects are being carried out with a focus on protecting the province’s cultural heritage and preserving its historical identity.
Highlighting the importance of safeguarding historic urban fabrics and nationally registered monuments, he said specialized restoration teams are currently working on several valuable sites, including the historic Molla Hassan Kashi Mausoleum in Soltaniyeh, Jaame Mosque of Sojas and the historic Zarrin Rud Bathhouse in Khodabandeh.
He added that restoration work is also underway at the Pir Ahmad Zahrnush Mausoleum in Abhar, while a project to organize and improve the façades around Enghelab Square and the historic bazaar area in Zanjan is also being implemented under the supervision of experts.
Mohammadpour said the projects are aimed at preventing further deterioration of the historic structures and boosting historical tourism in the province.
“These projects will not only help preserve the country’s national heritage, but also recreate a glimpse of the grandeur of the past for future generations,” he said.
Zanjan is one of Iran’s historically significant regions, with a heritage shaped by successive periods of Iranian history. Its location in northwestern Iran, along important routes connecting the central Iranian plateau with the northwest, contributed to the development of settlements and the movement of people, goods and ideas across the region.
The province is home to a diverse collection of archaeological sites, historic monuments, religious buildings, traditional markets and other structures reflecting different periods of Iran’s past. Among its best-known heritage sites is the historic city of Soltaniyeh, whose monumental architecture reflects the importance of the region during the medieval period.
The restoration projects now underway are part of broader efforts to protect this layered heritage and ensure that Zanjan’s historic monuments remain an enduring part of the province’s cultural landscape.
