Iran cinemas draw record crowds in year’s biggest weekly box office hit
Iran's movie theaters welcomed a record 363,320 moviegoers nationwide between July 18 and July 24, marking the strongest week of the year and a 78% surge from the previous week.
The nationwide box office generated 513.58 billion rials or about $269,600 during the seven-day period, as audiences flocked to domestic productions, setting a new annual attendance record and surpassing the previous high of 297,000 admissions recorded between May 23 and May 29.
Soroush Sehat's ‘The Pool’ dominated the weekly chart with 150,838 admissions, followed closely by Kazem Daneshi's ‘The Death Bath,’ which attracted 137,827 viewers. Bahman Goodarzi's family adventure ‘James Bond Island’ ranked third with 29,049 admissions, while Ali Behrad's ‘Tehran Another View’ and Hadi Naeiji's ‘Antique’ completed the week's top five with 7,926 and 7,524 viewers, respectively.
Among exhibition venues, Kourosh Cineplex in Tehran retained its position as the country's busiest cinema, drawing 27,034 patrons. It was followed by Iran Mall Cineplex with 20,560 admissions, Hedish Cineplex with 11,377, Azadi Cineplex with 10,656, and Eco Mall Cineplex in Karaj with 8,870 moviegoers.
