Minister: Ghadir celebrations poised to strengthen national unity
Iran's Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Abbas Salehi said on Tuesday that this year's Ghadir celebrations could open a new chapter in social unity, building on the spirit of solidarity and resilience that has emerged across the country in recent months.
Speaking to Mehr News Agency in Tehran, Salehi said religious observances have long served as a powerful expression of public unity, bringing communities together around shared values and collective identity.
Ghadir, one of the most significant occasions in the Islamic calendar, commemorates the event at Ghadir Khumm where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is believed by Shia Muslims to have designated Imam Ali (PBUH) as his successor.
Salehi said last year's Ghadir ceremonies demonstrated the strength of national solidarity, with people continuing to take part in religious gatherings despite security threats and challenging circumstances.
He noted that the atmosphere of steadfastness and national resolve that has shaped public life in recent months could once again be reflected in widespread participation in Ghadir events. Such ceremonies, he said, embody the same spirit of commitment and collective purpose that has characterized the nation's resilience.
The minister described strengthened national unity as one of the most important outcomes of the recent period, saying it had helped bridge social and political divides and underscored the common interests shared by Iranians.
Salehi expressed hope that the sense of solidarity forged during recent challenges would endure, adding that religious ceremonies such as Ghadir could further reinforce the country's social capital and collective cohesion.
