China snubs Trump’s tariff threats against Iran’s trade partners
The Chinese government announced on Tuesday that Beijing is vehemently opposed to the recent threats by US President Donald Trump to levy hefty tariffs against countries cooperating with Iran in the fields of trade and business.
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson expressed the opposition after Trump threatened to impose a 25-percent customs tariff on Iran’s trade partners and those transacting with the Islamic Republic.
“Beijing disagrees with interference in the domestic affairs of other countries and the use of coercion and threats in international relations,” Maoe Ning said. “We are of the opinion that the sovereignty and security of all countries should be fully protected via international regulations.”
Stressing that Beijing closely monitors the situation in Iran, Ning said, “We are confident that Tehran will overcome its crises and the country’s stability will be preserved.”
