Pezeshkian says efficient methods needed to help ease water, energy shortfall
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday called for “diversified and efficient methods” in order to overcome water and energy shortages.
Iran have been gripped by the worst water scarcity in half a century and chronic power and gas deficits that affected households and small businesses and major industries.
Water levels in almost all dams across the country have dropped to their lowest, promoting the authorities to bring down pressure in the national trunkline and ration running water in certain cities.
“All organizations are obliged to carried out technological and scientific plans to cut water and energy consumption and set an example for other sectors of society,” Pezeshkian said at a meeting with government officials, experts and representatives of knowledge-based companies in Tehran, according to his website president.ir.
The participants explored ways to optimize water and energy usage in government buildings, schools, universities and public places.
The president said consumption needed to be reformed via “simple low-cost and applicable plans” such as educational programs clear instructions for using related equipment.
He added that measures to cut down water and energy consumption must begin with government offices and then be extended to public places like schools, universities, hospitals and mosques.
Last year, the government issued a directive that required all ministries and government organizations to supply 20% of their electricity needs through renewable energy by installing solar panels in their premises.
The country is facing a power shortage of at least 10,000 megawatts during peak demand periods.
