Iran, Russia energy working group pushes ahead with implementation of MoUs
A joint Iran-Russia energy working group met on Wednesday to review bilateral cooperation and stressed the need to operationalize strategic memoranda of understanding between the two countries, Iran’s Oil Ministry said.
According to Mehr News Agency, citing the ministry, the meeting was held online and was chaired by Ali-Mohammad Mousavi, Iran’s deputy oil minister for international and commercial affairs, and Roman Marshavin, deputy energy minister of Russia.
The talks reviewed the latest status of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, with a main focus on examining, consolidating and following up on existing MoUs within the framework of the joint economic cooperation commission, as well as assessing progress across various energy fields.
During the session, the two sides reviewed steps taken so far and discussed the technical, executive and scheduling aspects of joint projects, stressing the need for closer coordination among executive bodies and relevant companies to speed up the implementation of agreements.
Possible obstacles to executing the agreements and ways to address them within the framework of bilateral cooperation were also discussed.
The meeting was held as part of ongoing efforts to deepen Tehran-Moscow strategic cooperation in the energy sector and to implement previous deals.
Participants included Mostafa Barzegar, director general for Europe, the Americas and the Commonwealth of Independent States at the Oil Ministry’s international and commercial affairs department, representatives from Iran’s Energy Ministry and the Oil Ministry’s engineering division, as well as 32 Russian representatives, including senior managers and experts from major Russian energy companies.
In a related development highlighting the tangible outcomes of bilateral cooperation, Iran on Tuesday initiated an international drilling project at the Kupol oilfield in partnership with a Russian company. The project is designed to expand production capacity, enhance recovery efficiency, and ensure the field’s sustainable development.
The start of operations was described as marking a new phase of effective international engagement in Iran’s oil industry and a concrete example of constructive, mutually beneficial cooperation between Iranian and Russian companies.
