Defense minister asserts self-sufficiency in maritime industry
13 vessels delivered to Ports and Maritime Organization
Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh said on Saturday that the country has achieved complete self-sufficiency in maritime industry, calling it an important achievement.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony of delivering of 13 vessels to the country’s Ports and Maritime Organization in the southwestern city of Khorramshahr, Nasirzadeh said the vessels are built by the Iranian Defense Ministry at the request of the Ports and Maritime Organization.
He said the vessels include four tugboats and nine search-and-rescue boats.
The defense minister emphasized that four of the vessels were constructed in Khorramshahr, noting that the development of the maritime industry in the city is on the agenda and can create job opportunities for the region’s youth.
He added that Iranian youth can supply a significant portion of the workforce for the country’s maritime industry.
He also announced the start of constructing nine new vessels under the Defense Ministry’s supervision.
