Iran ready to send aid to flood-hit Afghanistan

Iran extended condolences to Afghanistan’s officials and people over deadly flash flooding that ravaged the country, saying that it is ready to send rescue teams and humanitarian aid to the neighboring country. In a message issued on Sunday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said that the Iranian government and nation were deeply saddened by the natural disaster that has killed at least 300 Afghans and displaced thousands in recent days.
Iran’s special envoy to Afghanistan Hassan Kazemi Qomi also said that Iran is ready to send humanitarian aid to the flood-stricken people in Afghanistan. Heavy seasonal rains have set off flash floods in Afghanistan’s Baghlan, Takhar and Badakhshan, western Ghor and Herat provinces. The World Food Program said the flooding has killed more than 300 people and destroyed over 1,000 houses.
