Iranian honored by UNICEF for capturing tales of rural empowerment

ISNA – Iranian photographer, Atefeh Alsadat Safavi Vanani, was honored at the UNICEF Photo pf the Year 2023 for her compelling series titled ‘Atun.’
‘Atun’ portrays the endearing journey of a dedicated mentor who travels from village to village in the Kohgiluyeh and Buyer-Ahmad Province, capturing moments of storytelling for children. Safavi’s lens beautifully encapsulates the mentor’s efforts to foster culture and education, preparing the young minds for significant roles and responsibilities, ultimately shaping their futures.
The contest serves as a global platform for photographers to shed light on diverse social issues, with Safavi’s work exemplifying the profound impact of storytelling in rural communities. Her dedication to portraying the positive transformation of young lives has rightfully earned her honor in the international field.
Atefeh Alsadat Safavi Vanani, born in 1992, got her master’s degree in business administration in the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tehran. Since then, she has worked as a photographer and filmmaker. She has participated in many Iranian photo and film festivals with her projects and also teaches photography at schools and other institutions in her home country.
