Iranian film ‘Punch Drunk’ awarded in Russian festival

The Iranian film ‘Punch Drunk,’ directed by Adel Tabrizi, won the Best Screenplay Award at the 16th Cheboksary International Film Festival in Russia.
The statement of the judging panel in this festival states that the film is a representation of Iranian cinema that has successfully maintained a balance between comedy and tragedy, ILNA wrote.
Adel Tabrizi dedicated his award to Fereshteh Kaviani, the veteran actress of Iranian cinema.
The international distribution of this film is being carried out by Madakto Pictures, under the management of Mohammad Towrivarian.
The film has already taken part at the 40th Milano International FICTS Fest where it received an honorable mention.
“In 1996, Mahtab lives in Tehran along with her 10-year-old child, Erfan. She has been divorced from her husband, Morteza, who is in jail.
Mahtab has enrolled her child in a karate class so that he does not end up like his father as far as his character is concerned. Erfan’s only interest is cinema and could not care less about sports. Hassan Khoshnood, the tough and serious karate instructor with his dictatorial methods causes Erfan to, one day, run away from the karate academy in the middle of exercises.” The synopsis of the film reads.
