Iranian teen artist earns international recognition

Iranian teenager Zahra Asarian received an honorable mention in the painting category at the first Daya International Olympiad of Art, Cultural Heritage and Creativity 2026, IRNA reported.
Asarian is from Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran. The competition drew 91 artists from 18 countries, who submitted works related to art, cultural heritage and creativity.
Five works received honorable mentions, based on the jury’s final scores. The six-member international jury included experts from Iran, Germany, the United States and Turkey.
Their specialties covered visual arts, traditional arts and handicrafts, tangible and intangible cultural heritage, and anthropology.
The Olympiad was organized by the Daya Cultural and Artistic Center, affiliated with the Tehran Municipality’s Organization of Culture and Art, in cooperation with LUMEN ART Gallery in Turkey.
The organizers said the event aimed to showcase artistic talent, reflect cultural identities and encourage dialogue among cultures. It provided a platform for artists to present works representing a range of cultural traditions.
Asarian’s award brings the work of a young Iranian artist to an international platform. The participation of young artists in such competitions can also help emerging talents gain recognition and encourage cultural exchange among countries.
The Olympiad focused on the links between artistic expression, cultural heritage and creativity, with cultural identity as its central theme.
