Iranian cinemas draw over 6.58m spectators despite war
Iranian cinemas drew 6.58 million spectators in the first half of the Persian calendar year, despite wartime conditions, while box-office receipts topped 8.25tn rials (nearly $3.1 million).
The figures, recorded by the Cinema Sales and Screening Management System (SAMFA), cover the six months to Sept. 22. The period followed the start of a war waged by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28, Mehr News Agency reported on Tuesday.
Attendance picked up sharply toward the end of the period. September was the busiest month, drawing more than 2.23 million spectators.
Kourosh Cinema Complex led the country with more than 365,000 spectators. Iran Mall Cinema Complex followed with more than 287,000, while Hedish Cinema ranked third with more than 190,000.
The Death Bath, directed by Kazem Daneshi, was the most-watched film, drawing more than 1.25 million spectators. The Pool, directed by Soroush Sehhat, came next with more than 1.16 million. Adventure on James Bond Island, directed by Bahman Goodarzi, ranked third with more than 754,000 spectators.
