Walkout of 77 delegations at UNGA rejects Israel’s attempts to justify war: Deputy FM
Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi described the walkout of 77 delegations during Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s UN speech as a powerful rejection of Israel’s attempts to justify war and aggression.
In a post on his X account on Friday, Gharibabadi said, “The criminal Netanyahu came to the General Assembly to turn the podium of this international body into a loudspeaker for justifying war and aggression; but the exit of 77 delegations from the hall spoke louder than any speech.”
“The world will not be fooled by narrative-building. History will judge the crimes, occupation, and aggression, not the publicity stunts in New York,” Gharibabadi added.
The third counsellor at the permanent mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, Nasser Asadi, also reacted to remarks by Netanyahu during his UN speech.
“Mr. President, this organization was founded to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war. Yet today, the chief architect of that very scourge, the notorious Prime Minister of the Israeli regime, addressed this Assembly, an utmost disgrace to this body. This is the ultimate insult to all noble values such as justice, equality, and dignity and worth of the human person enshrined in this Organization’s Charter,” Asadi said.
“This is the greatest affront to the principles of humanity and the human conscience. This is a profound betrayal of the purpose and principles of this Organization. The UN was founded to preserve peace and uphold justice, not to serve as a platform for war criminals.”
“How can a person who is currently facing proceedings before two international courts for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide be allowed to be present in this Assembly? Does he belong at this podium to justify his crimes, or in the dock of a court of law to answer for genocide?” he said.
