Speaker warns of ‘swifter, more intense’ response to US attacks
Parliament speaker and top negotiator in talks with the United States warned on Sunday that Iran would to launch “swifter and more intense response” to US strikes, saying that the “rules of the game have changed”.
“The Americans must have understood that the era of proportionate responses has come to an end,” said Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf in an address to the parliament, adding that “any aggression against Iran’s interests and security will receive a faster, more intense and more painful response”.
“Our recent operations against aggressor bases were merely a start. If they have not realized it yet, they must understand before it is too late that the rules of the game have changed,” the top lawmaker added, according to IRNA.
He was referring to Iran’s retaliatory attacks on US military bases in Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain in response to the recent US deadly attacks on different Iranian cities. At least 15 people have been killed and scores others have been wounded in the US missile attacks in Iran’s southern cities.
Qalibaf said that the US leaders “find themselves in a state of desperation, resorting to empty words, slogans, and artificial intelligence to generate photos and videos from the battlefield”.
He also pointed to the US economic campaign against Iran, saying that Iran would overcome the US pressure just as it defeated the US militarily and diplomatically.
Washington has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports and last month and announced what it called an “economic asphyxiation” campaign on Iran.
In his speech, Qalibaf called on authorities to better manage Iranian imports to confront the US campaign “seeking to paralyze the supply cycle and energy management”.
