World Bank reports gains in Iran’s governance indicators in 2024
The World Bank reported improvements in three governance indicators for Iran in 2024, according to its latest estimate of global governance metrics published for countries worldwide.
As reported by Tasnim, the World Bank released its newest assessment of governance indicators for various countries including Iran for 2024, noting advancement in three specific metrics during the year.
The indicators examined in the report include accountability and responsibility, political stability and absence of violence, government effectiveness, regulatory quality, rule of law, and control of corruption. Each country receives a score between 0 and 100 for every indicator, with higher scores reflecting better performance in that category.
Based on the World Bank's estimate, Iran's scores for accountability and responsibility, control of corruption, and government effectiveness improved in 2024 compared to the previous year. Iran's government received a score of 29.75 in the accountability and responsibility indicator in 2024, reflecting an increase of 0.01 points from the prior year.
The country's score in the government effectiveness indicator rose to 37.61 in 2024 from 36.95 in 2023, indicating enhanced governmental performance during the year. In the control of corruption indicator, Iran's score increased to 24.63 in 2024 from 24.15 in 2023, suggesting progress in financial corruption prevention efforts throughout the year.
Iran's scores in three other indicators declined during 2024. The country's political stability score stood at 38.89 in 2024, down from 44.21 recorded in 2023. Iran's regulatory quality score decreased to 31.03 in 2024 from 31.7 in 2023. The government's rule of law score also fell to 35.71 in 2024 from 36.3 in the previous year.
