Safi finishes runner-up in doubles at ITF World Tour event
Iran’s Meshkatolzahra Safi settled for a runner-up finish in the doubles event at the ITF Women’s World Tour W15 tournament in Antalya, Türkiye.
The 21-year-old teamed up with China’s Jiayu Xu to reach the final, where they narrowly lost a three-set battle, 6-4, 3-6, 13-11, to Romanian Maria Sara Popa and Morocco’s Diae El Jardi in Sunday’s showdown at the $15,000 clay-court event.
Safi and Xu began their campaign with a straight-sets victory, 6-3, 6-2, over the Turkish duo of Deniz Cakil and Serife Pelin Sari, before defeating Alisa Vasileva and Diana Yakovleva 2-0 (6-3, 6-3) to advance to the semifinals.
The second-seeded pair then secured their place in the final with a composed 2-0 (6-4, 6-4) win over Romania’s Alexandra Irina Anghel and Türkiye’s Duru Soke.
