Tehran decries Israeli move to recognize Somalia’s breakaway region

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei censured Israel’s move to formally recognize Somalia's breakaway region of Somaliland as an independent nation, calling it clear violation of Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Friday that his regime and Somaliland had signed a joint declaration establishing full diplomatic relations, describing it as being “in the spirit of the Abraham Accords”, a set of deals brokered by the United States to establish formal ties between the illegal entity and Arab states.
Baqaei described the regime's action in blatantly violating Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity through attempts to advance conspiracies to disintegrate Somalia as a clear violation of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
The spokesman emphasized the principled position of Iran on the necessity of preserving the national sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, casting Israel’s “malicious move” as part of the regime’s policy to destabilize countries in the region and escalate insecurity in the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa region.
Baghaei, while supporting the firm stance of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the African Union in condemning the regime's actions, called for decisive action by the international community to “neutralize the expansionist and threatening move by the occupying regime.”
