Apple, Amazon stream Iranian animated film ‘The Boy and the Sword’

Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video have started streaming ‘The Boy and the Sword,’ an Iranian animated feature originally titled ‘Sword and Sorrow,’ following its festival run, the film’s producers announced Saturday.
Directed by Emad Rahmani and Mehrdad Mehrabi and produced by Mehdi Jafari Jouzani, the film made waves earlier this year at the 42nd Fajr International Film Festival and several other international showcases, ILNA reported.
The movie, hailed for its “epic” and “emotional” narrative, dives deep into themes of sacrifice, identity, and resilience. With visually striking animation and cutting-edge techniques, ‘The Boy and the Sword’ has earned critical praise abroad.
“The global release on major platforms is a big step,” producers said, pointing to the film’s arrival on Apple and Amazon as a milestone for Iranian independent animation.
The film’s international title and wide release are also seen as part of a broader effort to spotlight the country’s rising talent in animation. Industry observers say this moment “cements Iran’s place” in the global animation market.
Further platform releases are expected “soon,” the filmmakers confirmed.
