Never-before-seen
Monet painting heading to auction
REUTERS – A never-before-seen Claude Monet is expected to be a top lot at Christie’s New York’s upcoming 20th and 21st-century art auctions.
It could fetch $65 million, according to Max Carter, Vice Chairman of 20th and 21st-century art at Christie’s New York.
“This Monet Aux Nympheas is one of these 80-inch grand panoramic, monumental canvases from the last 12 years of his life. This is from 1917 to 1919. And in this, in these dozen years, he focused on creating what was the greatest project of his career, which was, there were these panels and there eventually were in the L’Orangerie in Paris. And they're really his legacy to the 20th century. This specific example has never – not only is it never been at auction, it's never been exhibited publicly before. So this is a first.”
The auction will be held on November 7 and 9.
