France’s nuclear output hit by strike at EDF
A labor strike at EDF, a major French utility, impeded France’s nuclear energy output, according to data released by the company.
The rolling walkout, which started on Friday, has resulted in a decrease of about 2.1 gigawatts of nuclear plant electricity output capacity – equivalent to the output of two reactors – according to the data.
The strike has affected the production of four nuclear reactors at the Tricastin power plant and the second reactor at Flamanville, as per EDF data.
President Emmanuel Macron has resolved to execute alterations to elevate the minimum retirement age from 62 to 64, notwithstanding nationwide protests and strikes.
The laborers at EDF commenced their walkout much before the scheduled strike on March 7, when the unions have announced that France will come to a halt in dissent of the reforms.
